the boyfriend. claudia wasn't completely open to the idea of dating until she met her current boyfriend. it was one of those moments where he swept her off her feet and just took her breath away. for this character, he needs to be a guy who is understanding of her situation (she was widowed five years ago and sometimes struggles with her feelings from her marriage). he also has to be the type of guy who is sweet and kind, and he knows how to calm her down. claudia tends to be very self-conscious now that she's with a younger guy and she
always worries that he is going to up and leave her for someone closer to his age. and she's also worried that he's going to want children and she can't give him a child because... well, she's fifty-four. their relationship is a
committed one - they spend a lot of time together and enjoy each other's company, sometimes kiss, but they do not have sleepovers and have not done
it yet. claudia does not get into relationships just to fool around - she gets in them for the long run and expects this guy to feel the same way. it is very possible that these two could marry.

the eldest son. anthony and his mother always had a neutral relationship. they weren't enemies but they weren't best friends. he hated how overprotective she could be though. after graduating from high school, he went off to california and majored in film at ucla. he decided to move there shortly after graduating. when his father died, he attended the funeral and stuck around miami for a few months, just to make sure his mother was okay. claudia attempted to commit suicide and it was anthony's decision to move her - and his two younger siblings - out to his place in beverly hills. they lived there for a while until claudia decided to get her own place. anthony does
not like his mother's boyfriend. it's not that he doesn't like
him; he just doesn't like the fact that he's closer to his age than his mother's. so it's an age issue thing. in recent weeks, since their relationship seems to be getting much more intimate than he realized (he thought claudia was having a midlife crisis or something), he has been criticizing the relationship and telling his mother that she's stupid, etc. he is against his mother being with a younger woman.

the gay son. the biggest thing about joshua is his sexuality. he is openly gay... but he wasn't actually out in the open until about three years ago. he feared that his mother could condone him for being gay, since she had been raised catholic, but his coming out made their relationship stronger. joshua visits his mother on a daily basis and spends a lot of time keeping her company. he things that her relationship with a younger man is excellent - and he tells her all the time that she deserves it. he also never hesitates to tell his mother how good she - and/or her boyfriend - looks. he didn't want to move to california but did it so that their family stayed together - he knows how his mother is when it comes to family and togetherness. and since they moved to california where gay marriage is allowed, he wasn't too concerned.

the baby girl. kennedy was close to her father growing up, and his death really hit her hard. she's gotten better in recent years since her relationship with her mother has improved greatly. she is a quiet girl, much like her mother, but she has a lot of ideas and isn't afraid to speak what's on her mind. she is outspoken and stubborn and even though she doesn't seem to have an attitude, she has that latina attitude like her mother. she is very artistic and creative, which is why she is majoring in photography, and she is minoring in photography in hopes that she might understand herself - and other people. she neither supports nor hates her mother's boyfriend. she agrees that her mother has gotten "better" since the two met and started dating, but she feels like her mother is using him to replace her father (which isn't true). she is also a little weirded out about the fact that he's younger. she doesn't talk to him all that much, and only tolerates him because she doesn't want to upset her mother.
