She loved the park. It had always been somewhere she went when she needed some time out. It was bright and lively and happy. The sun was out, and as she lay on the grass, she began to ponder things. She began to think. Mackenzie was one of the happiest people about. She was blunt, and she could be cruel sometimes, and she was rarely afraid to speak her mind. But she was happy. Always smiling, laughing, pulling pranks and running about like a child. It was just who she was. And this place, the park, it was everything she was.
Childish laughter rang through the air and she tiled her head back to look behind her. A grin spread across her features as she watched the children only a couple of feet away playing with water guns. Kenz could remember when she used to do that back home with her sister. Before her father. It was always less bright and sunny and happy in Scotland, and as much as she loved it, it was always to constricted for her. Even at 12 she knew that this wasn't the place for her. So when they moved across here to stay with her aunt, everything changed. She was the new kid, not that that would hold her back. Kenzie found her niche easily, and that was that.
She'd been here an hour already, just relaxing, sunning herself, being Kenzie. She'd already chased a kid about for a while because he chucked a water bomb at her, and she'd been licked to death by the cutest little golden Labrador ever. She was happy.
She stretched out like a starfish, her top riding up to show her stomach, and she sighed, yanking it down and rolling over onto her stomach. The grass tickled her stomach, and she laughed quietly, pillowing her head on her hands and closing her eyes beneath the sunglasses, relaxing into the noise and the laughter.
